The Game Awards: Ghost of Tsushima, Animal Crossing, TLOU 2 and More Nominated for GOTY

Cyberpunk 2077 might be out of the GOTY race this year, but The Game Awards event isn’t missing out much. The event organizers recently released a nomination list for all the categories.

This year’s Game Awards have a packed lineup of nominations. While major franchises are missing from the list, there are many surprising but fan-favorite names included in it.

Here we look at the list of nominees from major award categories, along with a mention of some noteworthy nominations.

Nominees for Game of the Year at Game Awards 2020

The first nomination for the Game of the Year category is Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The inclusion of the Nintendo game is no surprise, and it is pretty much an expected name in the list due to its popularity this year. The game has been a constant companion for players during the pandemic.

Other nominations include the Sony exclusive Ghost of Tsushima, DOOM Eternal, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Hades, and The Last of Us Part II. The list contains two PlayStation exclusives and a majority of these are from the action-adventure genre.

Best debut game

This year saw the launch of many interesting games. A lot of the nominees in the list are those developed by small/indie developers. Two of the games, Raji: An Ancient Epic and Phasmophobia, blew up on the internet. Many streamers and content creators have played them and garnered millions of views.

Other nominees include Carrion, Mortal Shell, and Röki. While these might not have been as popular as the other two games, they are critically acclaimed and stand a decent chance to win the award.

Best Esports Game

The Best Esports Game category is one that has been the most stable over the years. Games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and League of Legends have been constant nominees under this category. The recent Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare, is also included in the list.

Apart from these, the list of nominations also includes Riot’s latest FPS game Valorant, which has been a tough Esports competitor for CS: GO in the past few months.

Finally, the last nomination is the fan-favorite battle royale game Fortnite.

Content Creator of the Year, presented by Adobe

The list includes big names who have been dominating Twitch for a while, such as Nickmercs and TimTheTatman. However, it also includes content creators such as Valkyrae, who rose to even greater heights of fame after her massively successful Among Us streams.

Other award categories include Best Art Direction, Best Score and Music, and other categories for various game genres. Fans are really excited to see their favorite games at the most awaited event of the year.
