As the 30-year-old mixed-gender event of tennis, the Hopman Cup in the Western Australian capital, Perth has been erased from the ATP Calendar. Which is all due to the inclusion of a new event on the men’s tour which is the ATP Cup in the same city. The ITF and Tennis Australia have officially confirmed the termination of the licensing agreement of the tournament.

According to the reports, in order to preserve the practice of tennis, ITF has begun its quest for a new avenue to host the Hopman Cup and there are some bodies who are interested in taking the initiative for the mixed doubles event of tennis. 

The International Federation of Tennis (ITF) is determined to persist with the nationalist-tradition of tennis and continue with its legacy. The ITF states that it is, “committed to continuing to stage the Hopman Cup” and they have voiced out the tournament has “received interest from cities around the world”.

 “We would like to thank Tennis Australia and the Western Australian Government for their involvement in staging an outstanding event over the past 30 years,” the ITF president David Haggerty mentioned. “The event would also not be what it is today without the long-standing support of Lucy Hopman and Paul McNamee.”

“The ITF is committed to upholding the core values of the Hopman Cup in the future and is encouraged by the interest that has already been expressed. We are in discussions with potential partners to decide where and when this tournament will next be hosted. We will keep alive the Hopman Cup and look forward to successful future editions of this unique event.”

“The ITF will engage with players and other stakeholders about evolving the Hopman Cup in line with the spirit of reform and innovation at the ITF,” senior executive director for professional tennis of ITF added. “It is important that international mixed-gender events like the Hopman Cup which attract fans in person and through broadcast around the world are protected.”
