“The Resumption of Tennis Calendar Is Not Perfect by Any Means” – ATP Chairman

After months of no tennis, the ATP finally announced that tennis will be returning in 2020. They came out with an incredible grueling schedule for the rest of the year which raised some concerns amongst players. The ATP Chairman has just talked about this schedule. Check out what he said.

ATP Chairman On The Revised 2020 Tennis Season

In a recent Q&A session published on the ATP’s website, Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi talked about the revised schedule. He admitted that the season was not ideal as he said,

“We realize that the resumption of the calendar is not perfect by any means – we would love to have more events and more playing opportunities, and more space between our marquee events to ease player scheduling.”

Many tennis players have said that tennis should start in 2021 due to the pandemic. So why has the ATP decided to go ahead with the tennis season in 2020? The ATP Chairman said,

“Our judgment was that we need to start somewhere and if we have tournaments at the top level that are able to run, and in a safe environment, providing earning opportunities not only for players but for the whole industry, well that’s a start.”

Many tennis fans were definitely happy to hear that the ATP Tour was returning. But there is still the possibility that it might not happen. This is because of the recent COVID-19 cases among tennis players which started at Novak Djokovic’s Adria Tour.

The ATP has not mentioned any changes that will take place because of these cases. But they will be expected to increase their safety measures at all of the events that are going to be played this year.

Right now, every tennis fan is going to be hoping that all the players infected will recover very soon so that we can see them playing on the ATP Tour when it returns in August. And hopefully, that is exactly what happens
