Kamaru Usman ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ successfully retained his welterweight strap against Jorge Masvidal in their latest face-off at the headliner of UFC 251, a matchup that was pretty much one-sided throughout. Although Jorge Masvidal managed to outstrike Usman in the primary stage of their fight, Usman turned the momentum on his favor by taking Masvidal to the ground. Once the fight moved to the mat, it was pretty much of a Kamaru Usman show for all the five rounds.

Despite being unable to finish the fight, Kamaru Usman notched an impressive victory over Jorge Masvidal via unanimous decision. However, numerous fans and fellow UFC fighters have already based Kamaru Usman on unveiling a performance that many believes to be boring. Since Jorge Masvidal took the fight under a notice of six days only, MMA fans had seemingly been assuming Usman to pour some more damage on ”Gamebred”. However, Kamaru Usman has responded to his critics in fashion.

UFC 251: Kamaru Usan compares himself with Floyd Mayweather to snub criticisms

In the post-fight press conference of UFC 251 as posted on the YouTube channel of MMA Junkie, Kamaru Usman responded to his critics and analyzed his performance from the UFC 251 headliner. As per Usman, he slept for only 10 hours for the last three days before his fight and appeared satisfied with his successful title defense.

However, when asked to reflect on the criticisms over his performance, Kamaru Usman did not hesitate to flaunt his achievements in the fight. Kamaru Usman was asked whether he got confident after a point the matchup or was he concerned throughout, to which Usman said that he was concerned throughout the fight since he was facing someone like Jorge Masvidal. But when accused of presenting a boring fight, Kamaru Usman said, “yeah what maybe they needed getting their five doors mastered all for 25 minutes and they say something.” Usman further hinted that mauling someone for five rounds is more dominating them knocking them out.

“We have trained every day, that’s the most important part of training and then go in slugging and taking around punches you train to able to make someone miss to able to control them in a certain way, that’s what training is for”. “

“Floyd and his defense was so good and he was just so good. People just want to see a bar fight, you know we ate risking our lives in there and we have trained every day, that’s the most important part of training and then go in slugging and taking around punches you train to able to make someone miss to able to control them in a certain way, that’s what training is for” said Usman

The Nigerian Nightmare referred to undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather and clarified how people hated him for his in-ring dominance. “There was a time where people started hating Floyd Mayweather because he was so dominant,” said Kamaru Usman, seemingly comparing himself with the boxing great.

Kamaru Usman is currently undefeated in UFC with a stellar pro record of 17-1. One of the strongest welterweights of the modern-era, Usman already has two successful title defenses under his name. He notched the UFC gold against Tyron Woodley at UFC 235. Usman has defended the belt twice against Colby Covington (UFC 245) and Jorge Masvidal (UFC 251) since then.

As per speculations, Gilbert Burns will now get his title shot against former team partner Kamaru Usman. “Durinho” was originally scheduled to face Usman at UFC 252 for the welterweight title. However, Burns was tested positive with COVID-19 a week before the bout and was scheduled out from the contest. Now, with Jorge Masvidal out of the title mix for some time, Gilbert Burns can potentially settle it down with Usman inside the octagon.
