“These Are Pros” – Andy Roddick Not Interested In Best Commentator Battle

Andy Roddick has only recently joined Tennis Channel. However, his antics are giving a daily dose of quality content to tennis fans bored to death by the isolation caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Yesterday, Roddick did his first shift with the network. He gave his opinions on multiple tennis facets and received generally positive reviews. However, his television skills are not something that have recently developed.
In fact, he has been a commentator in the past, albeit for a brief duration. He took the mic to announce matches for the Wimbledon 2015. Even though he did very few matches, fans were very impressed by his skills.

However, a recent Twitter interaction showed that Roddick didn’t count himself anywhere near the best commentators. An enthusiastic fan on Twitter created an entire chart for an ultimate showdown between the best commentators ever. He had divided it in the form of matchups, similar to a tennis draw.

Andy Roddick was a part of the elite list that had the likes of John McEnroe and Darren Cahil. The post received interesting responses from Patrick Mouratoglou and Andy Roddick.
How did Andy Roddick react to the inclusion of his name?
The first response came from an interested Patrick Mouratoglou. He wanted to know the criterion behind the seedings and the matches :
“What are the criterias to decide who is seeded and which number?”

Unlike him, Roddick was not keen on joining the battle. Instead, he thought that he should respectfully bow out. Andy felt that his low experience level did not make him fit to be placed among the legends of tennis commentary.

These are really humble words coming from Roddick. As there was no criterion set for deciding the commentators, a general excitement level generated by someone could also be included. Roddick certainly qualified on that metric due to his short but successful stint during Wimbledon.
