Venus and Serena Williams, apart from all their astonishing individual accolades, also team up to become one of the most fierce doubles pairing in the history of tennis. The sisters share an incredible bond off the court, which shows in their incredible teamwork on the court as well.

In their formative years, two people who played a huge role were Richard Williams and Rick Macci. The former was their father and the driving force behind their incredible success, and the latter was their first coach.

Macci talks about Venus and Serena Williams Vs Billie Jean King and Rosie Casals 

Macci recently narrated a story that involved the two sisters. The Williams family, along with Macci, were invited to play in a $5000 exhibition event. At that time, Serena and Venus were twelve and thirteen, respectively. They were going to be up against the legendary Billie Jean King and Rosie Casals. 

The coach said, “Venus and Serena were going to play doubles against two people you might have heard of Billie Jean King and Rosie Casals… They didn’t know how to play doubles, but they knew how to fight. They were so aggressive, they were just smashing fights.”

With time, however, the sisters would certainly learn the art as they became the doubles team with the second highest Grand Slam victories (14) in the history of women’s tennis, and third highest overall. Combining their astonishing doubles success to their singles dominance, it’s clear why Venus and Serena are two of the greatest tennis athletes of all time.

Coming to this season, both sisters performed below par as per their lofty standards, with no major victories for either sister. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how these two superstars respond in the upcoming 2022 season.
