Macci talks about Venus and Serena Williams Vs Billie Jean King and Rosie Casals

Macci recently narrated a story that involved the two sisters. The Williams family, along with Macci, were invited to play in a $5000 exhibition event. At that time, Serena and Venus were twelve and thirteen, respectively. They were going to be up against the legendary Billie Jean King and Rosie Casals.

The coach said, “Venus and Serena were going to play doubles against two people you might have heard of Billie Jean King and Rosie Casals… They didn’t know how to play doubles, but they knew how to fight. They were so aggressive, they were just smashing fights.”

Macci talked about how the sisters blew the audience away with the effort and the fighting spirit that they displayed. Despite not knowing how to play doubles, the sisters left everything they had on the court.

With time, however, the sisters would certainly learn the art as they became the doubles team with the second highest Grand Slam victories (14) in the history of women’s tennis, and third highest overall. Combining their astonishing doubles success to their singles dominance, it’s clear why Venus and Serena are two of the greatest tennis athletes of all time.
