Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the US Open is taking protocol very seriously. This was seen a few days ago when Argentine tennis players Guido Pella and Hugo Dellien were quarantined after their fitness trainer tested positive for COVID-19. Considering the quarantine, they cannot play the Cincinnati Open. Fellow Argentine Diego Schwartzman was furious when he heard about this news.

Diego Schwartzman On The Disqualifications

In a recent interview, Diego Schwartzman talked about what happened in New York. He didn’t hesitate to express his anger and he said, “What happened with Pella I took it very badly. I am not going to be a hypocrite, it must be said. 95 percent, or almost 100 percent of the players took it very badly. We have had a lot of private talks with people who organized the protocols, with people from the USTA, and they lied to our faces…They said that there would be no retaliation for anyone who tested positive.”

The Argentine also talked about the validity of the test done on Pella’s fitness trainer. According to him, another test should have been done to completely confirm that he was infected. He went on to say, “There are many people who tested false positive. We discussed it with ATP people and they agree with what I am saying, but this is a decision of the USTA or the Department of Health and they do not want to test it again, it is something that I cannot understand.”

After the disqualification of Pella and Dellien, even Schwartzman exited the Cincinnati Open but for a different reason. He lost his match against Reilly Opelka. Since he hasn’t played in several months, Schwartzman was probably a bit rusty. He will now be training for the 2020 US Open which begins on August 31.
