The world knows MMA as a sport that is rough and controversial. Fighters often push the limits and cross the line, especially to sell fights and make things more dramatic. Usually, fans do not witness such controversial actions in other sports. Tennis icon, Roger Federer made reference to this when he compared the actions of fellow grand slam champion Serena Williams to the ‘Notorious Conor McGregor.

His rivalry with Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the most talked-about feuds in recent memory. Many believed that things went too far between the two fighters, and criticized the ‘Mac’ for his actions. Roger Federer was one such critic and reprimanded Williams for her unsportsmanlike behavior at the US Open in 2018.

In a 2018 interview with The Times, Federer was talking about Serena Williams and her US Open controversy. In the conversation, Federer also aimed some shots at the former double champ Conor McGregor referencing how tennis is relatively tame compared to the unadulterated violence the UFC fans are used to.

“Anything that’s good for society and gets the ball rolling, I’m all for it. We do so well in tennis; our sport is so well-behaved. You see the UFC guy [Conor McGregor] throw a railing, or in other sports, they spit and swear at each other on a regular basis”, said Federer. Apparently, Roger Federer was referring to the incident when Conor McGregor threw a steel dolly at a bus. The story dates back to April 2018, when Conor McGregor was scheduled to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223.

At the time, Nurmagomedov had a squabble with Artem Lobov, who was McGregor’s friend. McGregor, furious at this, rushed to the Barclays Center, where Nurmagomedov was, along with other fighters. McGregor, with his group of friends, tried to confront Nurmagomedov, who was leaving via the shuttle bus. The Irishman then threw a steel dolly at the bus. This injured some fighters who were sitting on the bus and also led to McGregor facing criminal charges.
