In a recent interview with SRF, Roger Federer talked about many things. One of those things was regarding the US Open. The Swiss Maestro talked about how there are still uncertainties and when a decision is going to be taken. He said,

“I was in touch with the US Open (organizers) just yesterday. They told me they will decide between 15-30 July about what will happen. These are uncertain times for tennis. Travelling and quarantine are big problems.”

The decision that Roger is referring to is probably the cancelation of the event. The COVID-19 cases in the United States are rising rapidly and hence it may be unsafe to conduct an event despite the many restrictions implemented.

Also, many players like have said that they might consider skipping the event. This is because of the rising cases and also, the restrictions at the event. So, while the US Open has said that it will conduct the event, it may not be possible.

For Roger Federer, the cancelation of the US Open will not make a difference. This is because he was not going to play the event as he ended his 2020 season prematurely. He did this as he had to undergo a second knee surgery and he wants to be at 100% before he plays professional tennis again.

We are going to see him play tennis again in 2021 where he will be trying to win some more Grand Slams. His Slam record is under threat by his rivals and he needs to extend his lead soon. And hopefully, he will be able to do that at the 2021 Australian Open.
