“This Is Tough”- USA’s Sprinter Trayvon Bromell Expresses Disappointment After Tokyo Olympics 2020 Loss

Trayvon Bromell was the gold medal favorite in the men’s 100 m event at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The American, however, was not even able to qualify for the 100m final as he ran a 10 second time in the Semi-finals.
His performance visibly disappointed the American. He didn’t seem to catch his stride and push after the drive phase. He wasn’t even able to register an under 10 second race time in the semi-finals.
Disappointment for Trayvon Bromell

Trayvon was the fastest sprinter at the US Olympics Trials with a time of 9.77 seconds. This time is faster than the 9.80 that won Italian sprinter Lamont Jacobs the gold at the men’s 100m final.
Trayvon looked like a different athlete in Tokyo. He barely made it to the semifinals, with a 10.05 in his qualifying heat, finishing fourth.

“I definitely don’t think my form was any good,” Bromell said. “My knee drive while running wasn’t up. Honestly, I don’t even know. All I can say is my form wasn’t where it needed to be.”
He later told reporters: “It [doesn’t] look like I actually pushed myself, and that is going to be the thing my coach is mad about.” After failing to qualify for the Olympics, he expressed his disappointment via twitter.
This finish is not what he or anyone else expected, for someone who ran a 9.77 a few months ago.
Road to Tokyo Olympics 2020
Bromell was looking to write a story of a great comeback and redeem himself. They carried him off on a stretcher at the Rio Olympics after running the anchor leg of the 4×100 m relay. He reported pain in his Achilles tendon.
Even before the Rio Olympics, the American has had a history of injuries. He has had two knee surgeries, broken a hip, and a forearm pre-2016. They operated his Achilles Tendon after the Rio Olympics

The injury was considered career-ending, and he didn’t run for 4 years post surgery. He then joined a new team and worked hard to get a breakout season. Bromell had a strong 2021 season and posted a new Personal best at the Olympic trials.

He became the fastest American, but for some reason or the other, he wasn’t able to perform on the big stage.
