Tickets for ‘Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal’ Match in South Africa Sold Out Under 10 Minutes

In July, Roger Federer confirmed that he will be playing a charity match with Rafael Nadal in Cape Town, South Africa. Their match will take place next year in the month of February. 48,000 tickets were sold out under 10 minutes for the ‘Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal’ exhibition match in South African port city.

The organizers of the ‘Fedal’ match mentioned that the tickets for the event sold like hotcakes when they were put on sale. Computicket website was the medium of online purchase and the offline tickets were bought at Computicket and Shoprite stores all around the nation.

We are overwhelmed by the enthusiastic reaction on our ticket sales and we sincerely thank you for the overwhelming support,” the chief executive of the Roger Federer Foundation, Janine Handel said.

“Lines were opened up by (online ticket sellers) Computicket at 0900 and within a record time of fewer than 10 minutes the tickets were sold.”

Computicket confirmed the snapping up of tickets via their twitter account. This infuriated many South African tennis fans as they landed up empty-handed. Each purchaser was allowed to buy a maximum of six tickets. The ‘Fedal’ match will take place on a Friday evening, on February 7, 2020, at the Cape Town Stadium.

While confirming their match, Roger Federer expressed his gratitude towards Rafael Nadal as he agreed to participate in the charity event in Cape Town. “He is an intense guy on the court, such honest and open, off the court and he has got a heart of gold. He is also gonna help me with my foundation again, next year. We are going to try to break the record for most attendance in Cape Town, South Africa. I am so looking forward to it, so thank you, Rafa,” Federer said.

The Roger Federer Foundation does charity work majorly in African countries. The foundation has been active for 15 years in South Africa’s Eastern Cape region and it supports many charity projects. This year, Federer’s foundation reached about one million underprivileged children and comforted their lives.

Out of all his achievements, records and fame that he has earned in his illustrious career, the Swiss maestro believes that his foundation is his greatest accomplishment ever. World Number threeRoger Federer’s roots also trace out to South Africa since his mother, Lynette Federer is a Johnessburg-born native South African.
