Spain was held to a draw against Argentina at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 yesterday as the teams squared off at the group stages of the football tournament. A certain star of the sport kept a close eye on the game. Well, it was none other than the 6-time Ballon D’Or winner, Lionel Messi.

Messi is currently enjoying holidays at home and charging up for the start of the next season. Last year was one of the most iconic seasons in his monumental professional career as the little magician finally got his hands on an international trophy.

Messi won Copa America with his country, Argentina. In a career full of accolades, international success has been something that has eluded one of the greatest players of all time.

Their match against Spain ended in a 1-1 draw. Real Sociedad star, Mikel Merino gave La Roja the lead as he converted a perfect delivery from Real Madrid ace Marco Asensio.

Asensio has been coming into his own as the Olympics are progressing. This is an encouraging sign for Luis De La Fuente, to say the least.

Thomas Belmonte managed to level the score for Argentina in the 87th minute of the match. Despite a dominant performance, Spain had to do with a draw. However, they managed to successfully progress to the quarter-finals of the tournament, unlike their opponent.

Spain is scheduled to take on Cote D’Ivory at the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Brazil vs Egypt, South Korea vs Mexico, and the host country Japan vs New Zealand are the other quarter-finals of the tournament.
