The US Soccer Women’s National Team (USWNT) is set to face Australia for the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Both teams are desperate to win this match, despite the fact that neither wanted to play it.
Since its inception in 1996, the US has dominated Women’s Olympic Football, claiming four gold medals and one silver medal in the process. The only year, when they haven’t won a medal due to crashing out in the quarterfinals, is 2016. Hence, they won’t want to go home empty-handed again.

They faced CONCACAF rivals Canada in the semifinals. They were a team that the US had never lost to before in a competitive match. In the 75th minute when Tierna Davidson was called for a foul and Jessie Fleming converted from 12 yards. Hence, putting the final nail in the coffin of gold medal ambitions for the USA. For Canada, it was historic victory. Unfortunately for the United States, it was crushing defeat.

In the semi-finals, Tony Gustavsson’s squad couldn’t repeat their quarterfinal winning upset, losing 1-0 to Sweden with Ellie Carpenter receiving a red card in extra time. However, Australia now has chance to earn their first-ever medal in Women’s Olympic Football or at Women’s World Cup.
