This announcement can make major changes to the schedules of all tennis stars. First and foremost, Roger Federer is at the fag end of his career. The Swiss maestro might retire this year. Which would mean that a singles gold at the Olympics might just become the feather which will always be missing from his cap.

In contrast, Rafael Nadal would like to add another gold medal to his Beijing exploit. The Spaniard is still the only one among the big 3 to win an Olympic gold. Interestingly, the most successful Olympic star of our generation, Andy Murray might get in much better shape by 2021 to defend his crown.

However, one of the biggest impacts will be on participation. Most tennis events had been postponed due to the Coronavirus threat. Additionally, the US Open and the French Open are now taking place just one week apart. This put the Olympics in a very peculiar scenario with its dates being at loggerheads now with many tennis events. Many stars might have skipped important tennis events altogether to cope up with the gruelling schedule.

This year might have been even more difficult. However, this announcement might just become a blessing in disguise for tennis.
