Tokyo Olympics 2020: USA Announce Official Team for Men’s Gymnastics

USA has a smaller team for men’s gymnastics than the women’s team. There are many new faces in the five-person team for Tokyo Olympics 2020 with Sam Mikulak set to appear in his third Olympics.

Sam Mikulak is going to enter his third Olympics but is yet to win a medal. He is the leader of the squad and has a great record in the events that have happened in the USA. Tokyo Olympics 2020 will also be his last Olympics as he will retire after 2021. He came fourth in the all-around category and hence was selected by the selection committee.

Brody Malone is the best male gymnast in Team USA. He came first as was the top all-around finisher, with his best scores coming in the high bar. Malone is the one who broke Mikulak’s streak of winning USA’s all-around titles for six years. He is yet to make his international debut and will do it in Tokyo. He is a possible event finalist on high bar, vault, and still rings.

Next gymnast is Yul Moldauer. He is the second person on this team to have a world championships medal. He came second in the all-around and is strong in the floor exercise. Moldauer has had a few injury niggles but despite that came second in the trials. He also had the best score in parallel bars.

Completing the four-man team for the Olympics is Shane Wiskus. He came third in the trials. Wiskus will be making his Olympic debut in Tokyo. He has had past troubles but in the trials, he was solid and was very close to the second-placed Yul Moldauer.

Alternates for the USA men’s gymnastics team at Tokyo Olympics 2020

With the above four being the team for the team event, there is a plus one as well. The fifth attachment to the team is Alec Yoder, who is a former Youth Olympics bronze medalist. Other than the five, there are five more alternates – Brandon Briones, Cameron Bock, Allan Bower, Akash Modi, and Alex Diab.
