Ukrainian athlete Yuliya Oleksandrivna Yelistratova, shockingly tests positive for doping at Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Yuliya Oleksandrivna Yelistratova is a Ukrainian professional triathlete and has backed several achievements under her belt. To begin with, she was the champion in the under-23 category in the year 2009. She’s number 1 in the ITU rankings of the same year. She has taken part in the highest number of races in her event!
Not only this, but she has also gained several times national titles in various categories and is currently a member of the Ukrainian national team.

Ukraine athlete’s doping test before Tokyo Olympics 2020
Even though she had qualified for Tokyo, the World Triathlon collected Yulia’s sample during an ongoing competition on 5th June 2021. It happened during the Europe Triathlon Cup Dnipro, organised in Ukraine this year. Despite winning the race, the results were not in her favour. Unfortunately, Recombinant Erythropoietin (EPO) is the main culprit.

The ITA (International Testing Agency) gave out an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) informing the World Triathlon. Apparently, the informational exchange occurred on 24th July by the World Anti-Doping Agency, accredited by the laboratory of Warsaw, Poland.

It was an out-of-competition test that was conducted in Tokyo, on July 23 Tokyo. Just like before, they found recombinant erythropoietin (EPO) again! This test was under the regulations of the Testing Authority of the International Olympic Committee and thus, they carried it out during an out-of-competition anti-doping control.

The career of Ukraine athlete at stake
As said by one of the committee members, “Since the athlete was already provisionally suspended when the second AAF was reported and that she was no longer at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, the case was referred to World Triathlon for follow-up results management.” it doesn’t look for the triathlete.

Ukraine athlete has had an incredible journey in her professional career so far. The entire world was indeed expecting a brilliant performance from her end in the Summer Games in Tokyo. However, little did she know that her career will come to a standstill. Therefore, this suspension came as a shock for everyone. Adhering to the rules provided by WADA and World Triathlon Anti-Doping agency, her career now seems to be over.
