“My Heart Aches”- American Superstar Allyson Felix Talks About Having to Leave Her Daughter Back at Home

Allyson Felix is a name that is synonymous with the Olympics. She is the face of American track and field and is one of the most respected and revered athletes on the track.

All over social media this past week, athletes have been sharing pictures of meeting their Idol in and around the Olympic village, and on the track.

Allyson Felix is all smiles as she poses for pictures with the athletes. Allyson Felix has given up something she values a lot, to be at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Quality time with her family, and mainly, her daughter Cammy.

An emotional goodbye

The 35-year-old track star shared an emotional message on her Instagram dedicated to her daughter. With the strict safety protocols at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, athletes aren’t accompanied by their usual entourage of friends and family. 

The athletes have top travel with only necessary staff and trainers. This news hurt Allyson Felix because it meant leaving her daughter at home. The American has never spent so much time away from her daughter. 

In an interview with TIME magazine, Felix spoke about how she would have to train on four hours of sleep. Her daughter would not fall asleep till midnight, and she would have to wake up early to go train for the Olympics. She knows all her sacrifices will not be in vain, as she competes in her fifth Olympic Games.

Felix is the only female track and field athlete to win 6 gold medals at the Olympics. Being tied as the most decorated female Olympian in track and field history with 9 total medals comes with its own expectations.

She will look to add to this tally and go clear as the most decorated female track and field Olympian in history.  At the age of 35, this will probably be her last Olympics, and she wants to win it all.

For her daughter, for equality, and for all the women looking up to her. This year, she will be competing in the 400 m and 4×400 m relay. You can catch her competing on Tuesday, 3 August in the 400 m heats.
