Tokyo Olympics 2020: Day Five Medal Tally Update- Japan and China Lead

The matches are getting more thrilling as athletes competed on Day 5 of the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Mega-quadrennial games are full of emotions as some countries are winning medals for the first time, while powerhouses are making it to the top.

The host country has been dominating on Day 5 as well, as they lead the medal tally. Whereas China, who started at the top on Day 1, are now at second followed by the USA at third.

On Day 4, 10 sports saw the medal-winning ceremonies, and over 57 countries have won medals to date. From badminton world top having a heartbreaking exit to Simone Biles exiting from another event, the day was intense. Surprisingly, Fiji and Latvia won their first medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020.

Japan remains at the top of the medal tally

Host nation continued its gold rush on the fifth day of mega-events. Men’s gymnastics team, swimmer Yuhi Ohashi and Judo player Chizuru Arai in Judo clinched the gold.

Japan has bagged 22 medals, out of which 13 are gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze medal. Because of their higher gold medal tally, they are at the top defeating the USA and China.

The USA clinches more than 30 medals in the tally

The USA have the maximum number of medals, i.e. 31 medals, while China have 27 medals. But, China have overtaken the USA, with 12 gold medals, whereas the USA have 11.

China grabbed gold medals in weightlifting and diving. On the other hand  the USA, had a gold medal rush in the swimming event. Making a strong comeback on Day 5, Australia are now in the fifth position, while ROC retained their fourth position.
