Kevin Wesley Love (born September 7th, 1988) decides to withdraw from Tokyo Olympics, 2020. Love?s persistent calf injury has led him to forfeit from the tournament in the upcoming week.

Kevin’s feats

He is an American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is a 5-time All-Star. Further, he won an NBA championship with the Cavaliers in 2016.

In addition, he also became a member of the gold medal-winning United States national team at the 2010 FIBA World Championship and the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The son of former NBA player Stan Love, Love was a top-ranked prospect out of Lake Oswego High School in Oregon. He played one season of college basketball for the UCLA Bruins and led the team to a Final Four appearance in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. He was named a consensus First Team All-American.

On top of that, he was voted as player of the year in the Pac-12 Conference. Initially, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves on draft night for the third overall selection.

However, during the 2010?11 season, Love established the longest streak for consecutive games. He recorded double figures in points and rebounds since the ABA?NBA merger! Finally, he chose to become a part of the Cavaliers in 2014.

In 2019?20, Love had five 30-point games during the season, finishing with averages of 17.6 points on 45% shooting and 37.4% from 3-point range while adding 9.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

During the first preseason game of 2020?21, he suffered a calf injury. This caused him to miss the regular-season opener. Love returned in the second game, but that reaggravated the injury in the third game. As a result, he decided to not play for 3?4 weeks.

On May 12, 2021, Love logged his fifth double-double of the season with a season-high 30 points and 14 rebounds in a 102?94 win over the Boston Celtics, ending the Cavalier’s 11-game losing streak.

Why is Kevin Love not taking part in Tokyo 2020?

Experiencing a severe injury in his calf, Kevin decided to take a step back. He says, “I am incredibly disappointed to not be heading to Tokyo with Team USA, but you need to be at absolute peak performance to compete at the Olympic level and I am just not there yet.??

This injury has further kept him from 47 games last season with the Cavaliers. Sources say, there was hope that Love could utilize his time playing alongside the NBA?s best. He has to do this in order to increase his trade value this offseason.
