The last time these two sides met was in the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals. Megan Rapinoe and gang picked up a 2-0 win and lifted the coveted trophy. At the Olympics, the USWNT suffered an early scare at the Dutch’s hands. Vivianne Miedema put the Dutch in the lead with a composed finish into the bottom left corner.

The USWNT wouldn’t stay behind for long as Sam Mewis struck in the 28th minute with a brilliant header. She met Lynn Williams’ cross superbly and guided the ball past Sari van Veenendaal. Three minutes later, Lynn Williams’ brilliance paid off again as she put the USWNT in the lead.

In a rare case of scorer turning provider and provider turning scorer, Sam Mewis provided the assist for Williams’ goal. A decent attempt at goal after Sam Mewis’ corner gives the USWNT the advantage before half time.

Can they maintain this heading into the second half or are we in for more drama? Will substitutions make a difference for the Dutch? Stay tuned to this scintillating quarterfinal to find out.
