Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the Tokyo Olympics. However, after a year-long delay, the Games finally kicked off with the opening ceremony today. While the ceremony infused Japanese traditions, they also had a highly visual pyrotechnic display along with the Parade of Nations.

Although fans cannot attend the ceremony at the Japan National Stadium, they watched it through live telecasts across the world. During the ceremony, fans witnessed a variety of aspects ranging from the background music during the Parade of Nations to the flag bearers themselves.

Over 200 countries will take part at the Games, which saw various countries display their traditions on the biggest sporting stage. While social media binds the world together, millions took to Twitter to share their feelings and reactions to various parts of the opening ceremony.
