Since last week, American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson has been in the midst of a battle on Twitter. While a failed drugs test forced her to withdraw from the ongoing Tokyo Olympics, she didn’t hold back in showing her confidence before the women’s 100m final on July 31.
After Jamaica dominated the final on Saturday, several people across the globe tweeted against Richardson. One among them was rapper Nicki Minaj, who congratulated the Jamaican athletes while taking a subtle dig at the 21-year-old.

Richardson qualified for the Tokyo Olympics with a time of 10.86s in the US Olympic trials. She also set a personal best of 10.72s earlier in the year, which made her a favorite in the category. However, a positive drugs test forced her to withdraw from the Games. This left Teahna Daniels as the only American to make the final on Saturday.
A day before the women’s 100m final, Richardson posted a tweet asking fans whether they missed her presence at the Games. In the final, Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce and Shericka Jackson locked out the podium to display Jamaica’s dominance. This sent Twitter into frenzy, with Minaj posting a tweet congratulating the three athletes.
