The Olympic shooting sport has seen some of the most intense matches in the past few days. Tokyo Olympics 2020 has 15 shooting events in its program.
At the mega-event, finals of 10m individual events have taken place till now. On Sunday, the shotgun events kick-started with skeet men and women’s qualification Round 1.
China has won the maximum number of medals in shooting events to date. While the USA clinched its first medal today, shotgun is their strongest feat. The next two qualification rounds and final events will be contested tomorrow. Here are the predictions for the events.

Women’s Skeet event at Tokyo Olympics 2020
In the skeet women’s qualification event, shooters have to aim at 125 clay targets. Only the Top-6 shotgun shooters will advance to the finals. Qualification round one was contested today.
After the first qualification round, 2016 Rio players, Italy’s Diana Bacosi and China’s Meng Wei tied at the first position with 75 hits. Following them was USA’s Austen Smith, with 73 hits.
World #1 and favorite to win Amber Hill had a heartbreaking withdrawal because of COVID. The 6-time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode is also absent from the games this year.
Rio Olympics gold medalist Diana Bacosi will be the strongest contender for gold. Diana’s first position in the qualification Round 1 proves her formidable form.
Giving her tough competition will be world number two Meng Wei. In Rio, Meng missed out on the medal by a whisker, she has a strong chance of a podium finish this year.
Other shooters who can win: Amber English (USA), Nadine Messerschmidt(Germany), and Natalia Vinogradova(ROC)
Men’s skeet event
In the skeet men’s qualification event also shooters have to aim at 125 clay targets. Only the Top-6 shotgun shooters will advance to the finals. A blend of Olympians and newcomers competed in the qualification Round 1 today.
After the first round, USA’s Vincent Hancock and France’s Eric Delaunay are tied at the first position with 75 hits. Followed by Italy’s Tammaro Cassandro, Czech Republic’s Jakub Tomech, and Norway’s Erik Watndal.

USA’s Vincent Hancock has the most realistic chance to win the gold. Hancock is a 2-time consecutive Olympic medalist in the skeet men’s event. American missed out on the medal in Rio Olympics and will aim for his third gold medal in Tokyo.

Eric Delaunay is giving equal competition to Hancock and has a good chance of reaching the podium. Another Olympic medalist in the fray, Abdullah Al-Rashidi, will aim to better his account with the gold medal. 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medalist and Olympic qualification record holder finished with 74 hits.

Other shooters who can win: Italy’s Tammaro Cassandro, Czech Republic’s Jakub Tomech, and India’s Angad Vir Singh Bajwa. Will the USA dominate the shotgun event or any other country will overpower will be clear after skeet events?
