Tokyo Olympics 2020: Seeding Results for Men’s and Women’s Archery

The most awaited mega-quadrennial games are finally here. Tokyo Olympics 2020 archery events kick-started with the ranking rounds. While the opening ceremony will start in the evening.

Archery has been a constant part of the mega-event since 1972. The recurve archery is the lone discipline included in the Olympic program.

The Olympic archery ranking round is the basis for the seeding of players for individual and team events. Athletes had to shoot 72 arrows with each arrow having 10 points.

Archery women were the first to compete in the quest for the individual ranking event followed by the men’s event at the Yumenoshima Park. Archery powerhouse South Koreans were back with their bows and arrows to climb to the top.

While South Korean women swept the Top-3 rankings, men also finished in the Top-5 rankings. This is beyond an impressive start for South Koreans after missing world championships because of the pandemic.

South Korean women break Olympic records at Tokyo Olympics 2020

South Korean women have been dominating the event for ages. They are back on the field after the break and had a terrific start. Outnumbering her counterparts, San An consistently maintained her top position.

20-year-old has also broken the Olympic record by seven points, scoring 680/720 in the ranking event. Portraying their excellent dominance other two South Korean women followed her.

Minhee Jang finished second, and Kang Chae-young followed her in the third position with 677 and 675 points, respectively. Interestingly, Kang Chae-young had entered the Olympics as the world’s number one female archer.

Mexico’s Alejandra bettered USA’s Mackenzie Brown to finish at the fourth position with 674 points. While Mackenzie Brown finished at the fifth position with 668.

The youngest archer finished at the top in the men’s ranking event

In the men’s individual archery event, the South Koreans had yet another stellar run. The archery powerhouse marked their place in the Top-5.

The spotlight was on the 17-year-old South Korean Kim Je-deok, who surprisingly finished at the first position with 688 points. The young star even shot a perfect 60/60 in the two rounds.

While giving South Korea tough competition, world number one, USA’s Brady Ellison finished at the second position with 682 points. Brady is aiming for the Olympic gold this year.

2012 Olympic gold medalist Oh Jin-hyek finished at the third position with 681. Whereas another South Korean and Olympic record holder in the individual event, Kim Woo-jin, finished at the fourth position with 680 points.

Host country’s archer Hiroki Muto established his place in the fifth position with 678 points. South Koreans will be the top seeds in all five events with the top rankings. The mixed team eliminations 1/8 is scheduled for 24th July.
