Team USA was out on the mats, warming up before the Team All-around finals. Team USA’s superstar Simone Biles was among the athletes warming up. Everything was routine as usual for the gymnasts till Simone Biles went for a warm-up vault

The 24-year-old gymnast went off the vaulting table and looked lost in the air. She opened up early, after doing just one-and-a-half of her planned two-and-a-half twists. The same error occurred in competition, which fetched Biles a 13.733 score.

After the vault, you could tell by Simone Biles’s expression that something wasn’t right. She immediately sat on the sideline consulting her coach, Cecile Landi, and one of the trainers of Team USA.

The discussion ended with Biles being escorted off the mats and out of the arena by a trainer. When they returned, Sunisa Lee, Grace McCallum, and Jordan Chiles were already warming up, indicating that Simone will probably not compete.

Official statement of Team USA:

Minutes after Biles returned, Team USA confirmed the withdrawal and updated the event start lists. After losing their talisman, Team USA will look to add Jordan Chiles to the Balance beam lineup. Sunisa Lee will now perform on the floor exercises.
