Tony Ferguson has been on a 12 fight winning streak beating the likes of Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis. Still, he has not got a shot at the undisputed lightweight title. UFC has scheduled the fight between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov four times in the past. However, injuries with both the fighters have prevented this fight from happening.
Khabib Nurmagomedov successfully defended his title against Dustin Poirier in UFC 242. Well, maybe fans can finally witness the most anticipated lightweight fight in the history of the division. It’s very likely that UFC President, Dana White is going to offer the title fight to Tony Next. Even Khbaib himself has said that Ferguson is the next in line for the title.
However, we all know how the negotiations go behind the curtains in UFC. We just saw the title fight between Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman falling apart due to bad negotiations. And with fights like Conor McGregor and George St Pierre floating around, the fans of Ferguson might get a bit worried.
“If I was in charge we are doing this fight in December. I am calling it right now. We can do this fight in December. We are gonna let Khabib go and eat his hamburger with cheese and all the other bulls***, enjoy the fathead and don’t get too fat. You know I am gonna coming at you harder than Tiramisu Tuesdays.”
Ferguson made it clear that he wants the fight on December 14 in Vegas. He also asked Khabib to vacate the title unless he can defend it against him.
Ferguson called out Khabib and said:
“Whatever Khabib says, you got to accept the fight. Defend or Vacate. Just set it down and walk away buddy. Just say everybody that you don’t want to fight me, you are scared, retire or do whatever you got to do. I wanna fight in December. I am tired of fighting once a year.”
The next fight is going to be a title shot or bust according to Ferguson.Reportedly, Ferguson was offered the interim title fight against Max Holloway. However, Ferguson denied that fight due to certain personal issues. Irrespective of the past failures in making this fight happen, it’s very much likely that Tony Ferguson will get his title shot this time.
