In the last few years a vast number of talented young Belgians have emerged and with their immense potential they have attracted big money clubs. Here is a list of the 5 most expensive Belgian players:

#5  Marouane Fellani
(£27.5 million from Everton to Manchester United)

David Moyes was lucky to sign the midfielder for a second time, Everton have confirmed. He brought his 5-year spell at Everton to an end by telling them he wanted to leave and he was Moyes first major signing for United right at the closing moment of the transfer window.

Fellaini cost United £27.5 million. He went on to score 33 goals in 177 games for the Merseyside Blues. He is undoubtedly versatile as he can play higher up , behind the striker or as a defensive or holding midfielder. He’s comfortable to move and play in any position surrounding the middle of the field.

#4 Romelu Lukaku ( £28 m  Chelsea to Everton)

Before his final transfer to Everton, the Chelsea striker was loaned to West Brom where he scored 17 league goals in 35 appearances and helped the team in securing the eighth spot in the Premier League. He then spent  a season on loan at Everton where he became a fan favorite at Goodison Park having scored 15 times in 35 Premier League matches. He became one of the most wanted young prospects and Everton quickly went on to lure the Belgian’s services.

The young energetic Lukaku wasn’t in Mourinho’s future plans and eventually had to move to Everton permanently in 2014 for a club record fee of £28 m .

#3 Axel Witsel (£31.7m from Benfica to Zenit st.)

Benfica were unable to keep hold of Witsel’s services after Zenit put together £31.7 m. Witsel’s transfer made him one of the most expensive Belgian’s ever. Zenit payed the exact amount which was in his release clause.

Witsel played 30 times for  Belgium until his transfer. He began his career at Standard Liege and is currently in a 5-year contract with Zenit. He is exceptional in winning aerial duels and has a great ability to spray passes all around the attacking positions, with great physical advantage on the pitch. He was among the top 5 young talents from Belgium during 2012.

#2 Eden Hazard ( £32million from Lille to Chelsea)

At the age of 21 the Belgium international completed his move in June 2012 as a Blues player.

Hazard was transferred for £32million from Lille, which would make him the second most expensive player in Chelsea’s history behind Fernando Torres.  He was one of the most exciting talents during his Ligue 1 days. Before the transfer, he enjoyed a hugely successful run in France with Lille where he was named Ligue 1 player of the year for the second season running, scoring 17 goals in 37 league games. It can be said he clearly lived up to his expectations and is one of the best signings Chelsea has ever made. With his pace and flare he is at present the best premier league player.

#1 Christian Benteke ( £32.5 m from Aston villa to Liverpool)

He has spent 3 seasons at Villa Park, scoring 49 goals in 101 appearances to help Villa avoid relegation and is the most prolific attacker Aston has even seen. Even in the Premier League his goal average is only less than Aguero at present

Liverpool FC  have now sealed a £32.5 m deal with Aston Villa for the Belgian striker Christian Benteke. With this transfer he is now  the most expensive Belgian player ever. Best in the air, great physical presence and sublime finishing ranks him among’s the top PL strikers.
