The English Premier League has changed in recent years with the involvement of big money makers with more financial power & clubs have managed to turn their fortunes around. Owners have been doing their best to support the club financially, which has sparked off a new transfer market frenzy with clubs competing against each other for the best signings

Mike Ashley, who took control of the Magpies in 2007, is an entrepreneur in the sportswear industry. Initially, he purchased a 41% stake in Newcastle. Later, he achieved 100% acquisition by paying an aggregate sum of £134 million for the club. Mike is known as an intensely private person but recently, his relationship with the fans hasn’t been going well and his approach has come under much scrutiny.

Stan Kroenke is an American self-made entrepreneur & he joined the Arsenal board of directors in 2008. Later, he went on to buy an approximate 63% share in Arsenal, though he intends to buy the remaining shares and take complete ownership of the club. Stan is also a secluded person, often nicknamed as ”Silent Stan” by Arsenal fans and media. His lack of interaction with the fans regarding the future of the club and his intention is often frustrating for the fans.

Joe Lewis is a British businessman & the main investor in Tavistock Group, which owns a variety of brands including Tottenham. He made his money through currency trading where an event known as Black Wednesday made him very wealthy. Lewis was ranked the 9 wealthiest person in UK by Forbes.

Roman Abramovich is a Russian businessman, investor, politician and one of the richest people in the world. His steel, oil and mining industries have made him the 12 richest person in Russia and 137 in the world. In 2003, Roman brought Chelsea FC for approximately £400 million and has since changed the club’s fortunes. His period of ownership is by far the most successful one in the club’s history; since the takeover, they won 13 major trophies making the West Londoners the most successful Premier League club of the last decade. His early period of free flow spending has mellowed down with the arrival of Jose Mourinho for a second spell, thus stabilizing the club for the future.

Sheikh Mansour is a member of Abu Dhabi’s royal family, the deputy prime minister of UAE & the half-brother of UAE’s current president. In 2008, he bought Manchester City for £200 million, making it the richest club in English football history. The owner of Abu Dhabi United Group has significantly invested in the club which has helped them bring some great players to the club. This resulted in immediate success with the arrival of two Premier League titles. He also owns New York City FC, which will play in MLS in the current season. Also, he is an investor in the British bank Barclays. His wide variety of investments in numerous sectors have made him the 104 richest person in the world, giving him the “gulf’s billionaire” tag.
