Atletico Madrid’s number 9 Fernando Torres addressed the media in Shanghai ahead of their friendly match against Shanghai SIPG on Wednesday. Torres started by confessing that the Mattress-Makers jersey brings a lot of joy to him.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given to play with the same number I had for so many years here as a footballer. This is a special season for me.” The striker added, “When I came back to Atleti I was completing the circle. I’m so happy to be here and I’m not thinking of anything else.”

The striker reiterated his desire to win silverware for the club and stressed that without question, he would give his life to win the La Liga title with his boyhood club.

“I’ve still got titles to win. For example I’m missing a league title. I’ve never won one and to win one with Atleti would be special. You should always aspire for it all; winning titles is what I’m missing. I’ll give my life and everything I have to achieve it.”

Popularly known as ‘El Nino’ among the fans, the 31-year-old striker concluded by stressing the importance of the proper per-season he is having with Atleti and assured the fans of him returning to his best form for the upcoming Liga season.

“I find myself very well and ready to play at a good level. I still have some good years and I want to enjoy them here with all the Atlético fans.”

The 2010 World Cup winner played a supporting role for Los Rojiblancos in the second half of the season as Atletico succumbed to a trophyless seasons surrendering the La Liga title to Barcelona and the striker is desperate to change that this season.
