After a major turn of various events, the free agency saga of Carlos Correa finally came to an end. It happened as he went back to the Minnesota Twins. But his journey of landing back to the Twins was not easy. The slugger had to go through two failed deals with the San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets before circling back to the Twins.

The first deal with the Giants that failed had an adverse effect not on the slugger but majorly on his parents. The news of their son failing to secure a $350 million deal because of the Giants having concerns about his medical tests had brought the shortstop’s parents to the brink of tears. Watching them getting this affected also made the slugger feel bad enough.

At first, his parents thought that he was joking. But soon as the reality hit, their emotions started showing in their eyes. “I noticed my mom getting teary-eyed. Her and my dad had been crying. Everything I do, I do for my family. The reason I played baseball growing up was to get my family out of poverty. For me, the tough part was seeing my family crying and hurting because of the news,” Correa said in his recent interview with Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic.

Hurdles did not stop for Correa. As after the deal with the Giants fell through, another deal that he was excited about with the Mets also failed. And for the exact same reason. The shortstop knew he would get signed by some other team, if not the Giants. But watching his parents that sad hurt him even more.

How did Correa play in the last season?

World Series Champion Carlos Correa signed with the Twins on a three-year contract. His contract had an opt-out option after the first year for $105 million. Having appeared in 136 games in the whole 2022 season, he batted .291/.366/.467 in 522 at-bats with 70 runs, 22 home runs, and 64 RBIs. Other than this, on defense, he had a league-leading .983 fielding percentage. Then, in November, he opted out from the rest of his contract to become a free agent. He did so, only to become the most talked about player of the league.

And now, he has signed a six-year deal with the Twins for $200 million, the terms of which are still unknown.
