‘Tries To Downplay It’- Daniel Ricciardo Opens Up on His Father and How Proud He Is of Him

For the 2021 Formula One season, Daniel Ricciardo is driving for the McLaren team. In his first race for the British marquee, the Australian driver finished seventh fastest on the track in Bahrain. All that was despite the early contact with AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly, which compromised him a little.
The 31-year-old has had a fairly long and successful career in the sport since his debut in 2011. Given the nature of the sport, Ricciardo has traveled to various cities across the globe every year. Obviously, it also means that he is away from his family for a long period of time. Despite this, he still maintains a very strong bond with his family, especially his father.
Speaking to Square Mile, Ricciardo acknowledged that his father is proud of his achievements. The Perth native also stated, “Of course he tries to downplay it, but I notice how much it means to him, how excited he is when he’s with his friends. If I’m visiting at home and they have some people over, dad will start talking about me a bit or let me, you know, share some experiences.”

Admittedly, Ricciardo is not overly fond of tooting his own horn. Despite this, Giuseppe “Joe” Ricciardo is very proud of his son. However, he chooses not to show off and instead prefers to enjoy Daniel’s success together. Daniel Ricciardo also confessed that his father is a better driver than he is.
According to the 31-year-old, Joe loves motor racing. However, he is not overly passionate to the extent where he tries to involve himself. Instead, he always stayed on the line of being a father and never attempted to integrate himself into any of his son’s teams.
