The association between the streaming platform, Twitch and gaming has been around for a long time. However, few know that one of the most popular activities on the platform currently is streamers playing chess. The popularity of chess on Twitch grew even more after the announcement of the PogChamps 3 event by Chess.com.

PogChamps is a series of chess tournaments on Twitch that have had two previous editions. The success of both tournaments combined with the growing popularity of the board game on the streaming platform has led to Chess.com announcing the third edition.

Apart from the variety streamer xQc, there have been various other personalities to have contributed to this rising popularity. Pokimane, the Botez Sisters, and Grand Master Hikaru Nakamura have been actively streaming the board game on Twitch.

Twitch drama between GMHikaru and the Botez Sisters

Ahead of the event, GMHikaru had announced the stellar lineup of streamers who will be participating in the tournament. Included in these were the Botez sisters who often stream the board game on Twitch. However, according to rumors, the sisters found themselves in a spat with the GM.

The GM reportedly unfollowed the sisters on Twitter, which had sparked these rumors. According to the sisters, their constant ignorance of the ‘chess’ category on Twitch might have been the reason behind it. While the category is popular, it is still underrated and could use more exposure. However, whenever the Botez Sisters stream themselves playing the board game, they do it under the ‘Just Chatting‘ category, which is already extremely popular.

Since these rumors surfaced, both the parties have come out and clarified that there is no bad blood between them. In fact, they apparently had a conversation very recently and sorted out any misunderstandings that existed.

The GM said, “There were some misunderstandings regarding certain events that have happened in the past, and we have all spoken and things have been sorted out.

He was not the only one to make a comment. On behalf of the Botez Sisters, Alexandria Botez said, “I actually apologized to Hikaru yesterday…We did have a call yesterday, and we worked through a lot of the issues … we actually made up. Everything is really good between us now.”

The gaming community was really looking forward to the Botez Sisters and GMHikaru mentoring streamers such as xQc, TSM Myth, and Pokimane, all of whom will be participating in the tournament. Since the GM and the sisters have made up, we can expect a smooth and exciting tournament starting on February 14, 2021.
