In an mentally daunting and physically challenging finale at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Stanislas Wawrinka proved yet again, that when it comes to the biggest stages, he is the man. The Swiss defeated the defending champion and world number one Novak Djokovic in four sets of high octane tennis, to clinch his first US Open title and third major overall.

Stan’s 6-7(1) 6-4 7-5 6-3 win, now makes him the oldest slam winner since Agassi in 2003. Wawrinka proved to be the more courageous of the two when it came to decisive points and looked the far more composed than the Serbian across the net. The fourth set was also more about Novak’s injury on the toe, as he wobbled in between the points. However, the Serbian was chasing balls well during the rallies and it didn’t look like he was struggling to get the balls back or play his shots.
