And she has done it! Serena Williams creates history as she won her 23rd Grand Slam by defeating her older sister Venus Williams in straight sets 6-4 6-4 in 1 hour 22 minutes. . She has now overtaken German legend Steffi Graf to have won the most number of Grand Slams in the open era.
But Venus Williams, who will turn 37 in June played remarkably well against the greatest player tennis has ever witnessed. She did it all. From aces to saving major break points, that even Serena couldn’t help but applaud. It was Serena though, who managed to prevail in the first set and break the serve in the 7th game of the second set to make way towards victory. She becomes the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam and also the oldest player to hold the Number 1 ranking.
