Twitter Reacts as Kim Clijsters Announced Her Return To Professional Tennis

Former World Number one, Kim Clijsters grabbed the headlines in the tennis world on Thursday by announcing her return to WTA circuit. WTA’s CEO, Steve Simon said, “Kim Clijsters ranks among the greats of the game and her return to the Tour is exciting news for the WTA family and tennis fans around the world,” and it certainly happens to be the best news of the year.

She has been training since the beginning of this year and the mother of three kids, Clijsters has been incessantly working on her fitness. She misses tennis a lot and her innate desire for the game, pulled her towards the professional track.

“I loved being a professional tennis player. And honestly, I miss that feeling.”

She showed up for the at the test event for the Court One roof at Wimbledon in May and played some tennis in London. The upcoming four months should be used optimally by Kim to battle against the new faces on the WTA Tour from January 2020. 

In 2012, her body was not supporting her to play tennis at her best, she underwent numerous physical issues and consequently the Belgian retired from tennis in 2012. Before that, she retired in 2007 and came back to the circuit in 2009 after having a child.

“At 36 years old I feel like I’m too young to be retired,” she said. “And with so many inspirational athletes and moms competing, I can’t wait to get back on the match court and see what’s possible after having three children.”

She was unseeded at US Open 2009 and over there, she achieved the niche of becoming the WTA player to win a Grand Slam singles title as a mother after Margaret Court and Evonne Goolagong Cawley.

Tennis world showed a tremendous amount of excitement after the four-time Grand Slam champion, Kim Clijsters as she revealed her return to professional tennis.
