Coming into the US Open, the so-called ‘Baby Fed’ did not look much of a threat as he had just one win from his last eight matches. However, the Bulgarian has found a new high at the Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday as he claimed his first win in eight meetings against Roger Federer.

“I’m just happy,” Dimitrov said in the post-match interview. “The only thing I was telling myself was to stay in the match. Physically I was feeling pretty good. I was hitting some shots against him that were hard to hit.”

The Bulgarian will face the next-generation star, Daniil Medvedev, who will play his first major semifinal match to book a place in the finals of the US Open 2019.

On the other hand, Roger Federer was satisfied with his performance in this season as he said, “I think still it’s been a positive season. Disappointing now, but I’ll get back up, I’ll be all right.”

“This is Grigor’s moment, not my body’s moment,” said the world No.3, who took a medical timeout during the match the to treat his upper back near his neck.

“It’s okay. It’s how it goes,” the 38-year-old further added. “I tried my best. I fought with what I had and that’s it.”

The Twitter erupts after Roger Federer failed to make it to the semifinals of US Open 2019. With this defeat, the Swiss maestro also denied a potential final with Rafael Nadal, which could have been their first meeting at the Flushing Meadows.
