Bizarre concepts in gaming are nothing new. Popular Esports insider, Rod Breslau, managed to share the trailer for all those who missed it. Check the trailer below.

Players will don the role of a moderator for the up and coming streamer, Abicake99. The streamer is making a return after the mysterious disappearance of her friend Becky. Players can moderate the chat streams, make choices in Abicake99’s life, choose different storylines to go with, and much more. The character seems to resemble a streamer from Twitch.

Abicake99 wants players to make real-life decisions for her. They can choose how she travels, who she meets, what she does and the list goes on.

When the trailer dropped, it received major backlash from the gaming community. Many did not like the way the game was presented, calling it ridiculous. You can read some of the tweets below.

Publishers defend

Publishers Wales Interactive came out in defense of its game on Twitter. They stated that Gamer Girl was to raise concern over toxic environments.

“Gamer Girl is about the impact user comments and actions have on a streamer’s mental health and well being. The reason why FMV Future created the game was to raise the issue of the toxic environment which can often appear online behind the anonymity of a username.

“Without giving away too much, Gamer Girl is an empowering story of a female streamer who, with the help of her moderator friend, battles the trolls and — overcomes— the toxic characters in her stream.”

Trying to tackle real-world problems through a game is appreciable. However, the way Wales Interactive has tried it out is far from perfect.

After the tweets, Wales Interactive pulled the reveal from YouTube, and many links that connected to the game have since been deleted. Whether the developers will still release the game is unclear. Looking at the general reaction, it’d better if they tweak the game into something entirely different.
