2023 BMW PGA Championship: Prize Money Breakdown and Winner’s Payout

This season the BMW PGA Championship is going to have its 44th edition from September 14 to September 17 at the Wentworth Club-West Course in Surrey, England. The tournament comes under the DP World Tour. Last year, the winner was Irishman Shane Lowry.

144 players will be participating in the event. Of that, twelve members from the European Ryder Cup team will also be in action. Let’s find out what’s at stake in this prestigious event!

Who is playing and what is the format of the 2023 BMW PGA Championship?

One of the most popular names that can be witnessed this year in this event is Rory McIlroy. He has had an excellent year so far. Rory has twelve top-ten finishes besides a fourth position in both the BMW Championship and the TOUR Championship. 

Apart from McIlroy, Jon Rahm will also be seen making a stop at the English course before the Ryder Cup tees off in Rome later this month. This star golfer has won a major this year, the Masters. Besides, he also stood at T2 in the Open Championship.

Alongside them, Viktor Hovland will also be seen showcasing his great form, after the stellar win at the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Even the European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald is part of the field. Defending champion Shane Lowry is also in the fray and will look to make it two in two.

It’s an 18-hole layout in Kentwood Country Club. A cut after the first leg of the tournament, that is after two rounds, will take the best 70 players (including ties) into the weekend action. The stakes are high at the event. 

What will be the prize money distribution? 

Last year the purse of the BMW PGA Championship was $8 million. But this year, there has been an increase in the amount by $1 million and thus, the total purse stands at $9 million this year.

Last year, the winner’s payout was $1,333,330. But this year, the share would be $1,530,000. Other than these, the winner will also receive 38 OWGR points and a two-year exemption. Here is the prize money breakdown.
