Tyron Woodley is one of the greatest welterweights of all time. Despite getting outperformed in his last fight against Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight championship, Woodley believes he can become the champion once again.

Woodley is an incredible boxer who has a near-perfect takedown defense. While he likes to keep the fight on the ground, Woodley is an equally brilliant wrestler with a lethal ground game. Woodley is a former welterweight champion. He successfully defended his title a record four times in the division before losing it to Usman at UFC 235. However, it was Woodley’s fourth career loss in 24 matches. Woodley is so successful at the division that no fighter has been able to submit him inside the octagon.

However, back in 2012 before joining UFC, Woodley competed at the Strikeforce. In his last match with the promotion, Woodley faced former middleweight title contender, Nate Marquardt. In a shocking turn of events, Nate knocked out Woodley in the fourth round of the match.

Nate Marquardt, who was fighting his first match under the Strikeforce promotion, after a failed championship attempt at UFC, shocked the entire MMA community. He remains the only fighter in the history of MMA to finish Tyron Woodley inside the octagon.

Nate looked confident in the later rounds of the fight and maintained octagon control by keeping Woodley near the cage. He threw in a combination of strikes before catching him cold with a sharp elbow. He followed it up with beautiful uppercuts, and flurry of punches. Woodley couldn’t recover from the damage and eventually fell flat on his knees. Nate Marquardt had become the first fighter to knock out Tyron Woodley.

What’s next for Tyron Woodley?

Tyron Woodley is yet to find an opponent for his return to the octagon after losing the title belt at UFC 235. There were rumors that Woodley might face #4 welterweight contender Leon Edwards. Dana White also suggested a fight between Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley, but no official words are out yet. We will have to wait for some more time to know how he progresses in his career, now that he is not a champion anymore. While a match against Leon Edwards is in the cards, Woodley might look for a high profile match-up.
