Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Quarantine was revealed at E3 in 2019. Since the Covid-19 pandemic became prevalent, the word ‘quarantine’ has been a cause of great frustration. In 2021, the word relates to canceling plans, staying home, and being bored. Thus, it was no surprise to see that the name fell out of favor with Ubisoft, who made an attempt to change it.

In a new leak on the PlayStation Store, Ubisoft has pushed out a new pre-launch patch for Rainbow Six Quarantine that seemingly changes the name entirely. Additionally, this update has added new images containing the game’s key art and new logo. The name Parasite is apt given the story is centered around fighting mutating parasites.

What is Rainbow Six Parasite?

Rainbow Six Parasite is the 14th installment in the Rainbow Six franchise. Set in the future, Parasite tasks a three-player team of Operators to work together and fight off the increasing threat of a technological parasite. Furthermore, this team-based tactical shooter will borrow gameplay elements from Rainbow Six Siege.

Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot was asked if the theme of the game would be controversial given the Covid-19 scenario. He responded by saying, “On Rainbow Six Quarantine, we are creating a product that is actually, as it’s named today, it is something we are evaluating and we will see what comes in the future on that product.”

Although in October 2020 Ubisoft delayed its flagship games, Rainbox Six and Far Cry, to 2021, it had no significant impact on its earnings. Ubisoft released its quarterly report for the quarter ending December 2020. It boasted record net bookings of over €1 billion. Ubisoft attributed most of this success to Assassins Creed: Valhalla.

While there is no official release date from Ubisoft yet, the earnings call did mention that the game is expected to launch sometime in Ubisoft’s 2021/22 fiscal year. We can expect to see Parasite make it to the Playstation 4 and 5 and Xbox One and Series X.
