Charles Oliveira‘s focus right now should not be on anything other than Mateusz Gamrot. He will take on the Pole at the Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on October 11, 2025. The bout will mark his first UFC appearance in his hometown in over five years and could decisively tell us if the Olive-era will continue for much longer… or not. But ‘Do Bronx’ has not let the weight of the bout keep him from doing his thing… and fans are not too keen on his latest out-of-the-cage promotions.

The ex-UFC lightweight champion has been busy collaborating with 20th Century Studios, a film production and distribution giant valued at $71 billion, to promote their upcoming movie. Titled ‘Predator: Badlands’ — or ‘Predador: Terras Selvagens’ in Brazil—the film is set for release on November 7 in the United States, starring Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi as Dek and Elle Fanning as Thia. But here’s where things get interesting: Oliveira’s involvement in promoting the film has unexpectedly led to a change in his iconic nickname, one beloved by fans around the world.

What is Charles Oliveira’s new nickname?
Earlier today, 35-year-old Charles Oliveira took to Instagram to declare, “In the hunt for the strongest, there is only room for a Predator.” He also shared a couple of pictures of himself with “Charles Predator” written across them, revealing the new nickname. One of the photos even shows him wearing the iconic mask made famous in the Predator movies, with green alien blood forming a claw mark on his arm.
“So as of now it’s Charles the Predator here and in the octagon,” he confirmed in the caption. “A fighter who, like me, faces any challenge head-on, always ready for whatever comes next. Only this time, the mission is to confront the greatest of enemies and restore the respect of a people. Predator: [Badlands] November 6 in theaters [in Brazil].” Interestingly, this isn’t Charles Oliveira’s only link to the big screen.

As for the promo stunt for the new Predator movie, fans have already expressed mixed reactions online, with many urging the Brazilian star to stop changing his iconic nickname for promotional purposes.
Charles Oliveira is reminded of why ‘Do Bronx’ is special
There’s a reason fans fell in love with Charles ‘Do Bronx’ Oliveira. He was the ultimate underdog. The scrawny little kid from the favelas who doctors said might never walk again. Rheumatic fever and a heart murmur left him in a world of hurt with medical advice to stay away from sports. In 2021, he became a UFC lightweight champion!
As the defending champion, ‘Do Bronx’ put down the likes of Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje, in fights everyone expected him to bite the dust. He was not a ‘predator’ then. He was the kid from the favelas, defying the odds.
So, it didn’t take long for people to express their thoughts on the change. One user urged the former UFC lightweight champion to avoid the change, writing, “Noooo Charles don’t call yourself that please.”
Another user claimed it was a terrible idea. “Charles, my dude, calling yourself that is most definitely a terrible idea 😭,” the user commented.
Now, this is most likely a promotional stunt for the film and the ‘Do Bronx’ name is not going anywhere. But even then, some fans could not accept the name change in any way, shape or form. The next user who wasn’t on board wrote, “Charles cut it off,” the user demanded.
Another also didn’t like the nickname, but looked past it and chose to focus on what was important: “Don’t like nope, but anyway.. let’s go up,” Mateusz Gamrot has taken this bout on short notice, which adds pressure on Oliveira to perform. Who cares about a nickname once the cage door closes on Saturday?

Someone else reasonably questioned the need to fix what isn’t broken. “The champ has a name..Charlesss Da Bronxxx 🔥👏 dont fix something that isnt broken 💪🏾💪🏾,” the user commented.
Clearly, the public isn’t too fond of the new nickname Charles Oliveira came up with, even if it was just for promoting a movie. But hey, at least Charles is getting paid to promote movies for big-time studios, right? So, the question is, can he get paid the big checks this weekend and add to his UFC bonus record?
