UFC 248 ended with a bizarre main event. On one hand, we had one of the greatest strikers in the history of the sport, Israel Adesanya. And his opponent was one of the scariest strikers in the game, Yoel Romero. So fans were expecting a grueling war between the two of the greatest middleweights in the organization at the moment.

However, it’s safe to say that this fight disappointed the fans. The fight would have played out in many different ways. Unfortunately, both Adesanya and Romero decided to be the counter puncher for the most part of the fight.

The beginning sequence of the fight shocked everyone as Romero just stood in the center of the octagon with his guard up. Not just the fans but Adesanya was clueless for a while. The first round alone saw less than 10 significant strikes by both the fighters. That should just tell the tale of the night.

There were a few exciting moments when Romero landed some heavy shots on Adesanya. But it did not seem to have a significant impact on the middleweight champion. However, it did make him follow a cautious approach for the rest of the fight.

Well, UFC president, Dana White did not agree to Romero’s claims as he stated that Adesanya fights according to the level of his opponent. White explained:

“It was a tough act to follow after the co-main event. And I believe Israel Adesanya fights to the level of his opponent. The Anderson Silva fight was similar to that. The Gateslum fight was a war. Gateslum tries to go after him trying to take his head off. Whittaker going after him tries to get his head off that fight was great.”

While the fight was not an entertaining one, Romero blaming Adesanya for the same is completely foolish. After all, he was the guy who decided not to engage and stand in the center of the octagon just to find an opportunity to hurt Adesanya.

As a challenger, it was on Romero to take the fight to the champion and snatch his title away. However, Romero probably tried to fight a 5 round fight and saved his energy for the later rounds.

After witnessing the legendary battle for the strawweight title the main event was not entertaining, to say the least.
