Henry Cejudo has cemented his name amongst the UFC greats by retaining his title against an excellent Dominick Cruz. Despite 1,226 days out of the Octagon, Cruz looked well prepared. However, Cejudo proved once again he’s the G.O.A.T in the division.

The principal talking point of the match is certainly the controversial refereeing decision. The former two-time champion was stopped via TKO towards the end of the second round. Cejudo connected with a solid knee and dropped Cruz to the ground. He got on top and landed some punches. However, the fight was stopped as Cruz began to scramble.

Dominick and Cejudo took the first round to gauge each other’s movement. Cejudo landed some nasty kicks to slow down Cruz, and both men exchanged some good shots. A nasty head clash saw blood gushing down Cejudo’s face, but that didn’t deter him as he continued to apply pressure on Cruz.

The decision made by the referee is highly controversial, given that Cruz was about to stand up. Commentator’s Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier called out referee Keith Peterson for the decision, but after further inspection, they claimed it was a close call. However, with just a couple of seconds left in the round, and with Cruz not stationary, many feel it was a premature end to the fight.

“I asked the ref to let me go until I was out,” says Dominick Cruz

“I’m not happy with the stoppage, obviously because I specifically asked the ref to let me go until I was out and I was standing up. If I stayed on the floor, I get it. But I’m working my way up,” said Cruz after the fight.

Several members of the MMA community poured in their reactions after the controversial stoppage.
Perhaps, the most shocking moment of the whole ordeal was Cejudo announcing his retirement. Triple C announced he would be hanging up his gloves after defending his title. Cejudo retires with a record of (16-2).
