For a former UFC heavyweight champion to be afraid of things like needles seems rather trivial and almost unbelievable. However, when it comes to Daniel Cormier, there may be some truth to it. And Dana White is as amused as we are.
With the Coronavirus epidemic tightening its grip all over the world, the medical community has come up with several tests for the virus. Some not as pleasant as others.
The UFC has always been an advocate of medical preparedness, considering the nature of their work. Prevention of health issues and injuries has always been a priority for the promotion. Which is why they have taken so many measures to ensure that UFC 249 is a Coronavirus free zone. From tests to social distancing, the UFC has done it all.

However, one of their tests involves nasal swabs. Daniel Cormier, while in conversation with Ariel Helwani revealed how terrified he is of the tests.
“That’s hilarious. One of the toughest dudes in the world. You see that with a lot of these guys. Some of these guys are afraid of needles. The stuff that these people are afraid of is f*****g unbelievable. The things they’re not afraid of is unbelievable,” said Dana White in response to a question about Daniel Cormier’s concerns regarding the tests.
Safety measures at UFC 249
The UFC has taken multiple steps to ensure the safety of all the participants. From the fighters to the crew and management. The promotion has completely ruled out the possibility of in-octagon interviews. Instead, the fighters will be answering questions over sanitized headsets, sitting on different corners of the cage.
The commentators, keeping the need for social distancing in mind, will not be occupying a single desk like they usually do, instead, they will be seated away from each other around the octagon. The commentary team includes Daniel Cormier, Jon Anik, and Joe Rogan.

No one other than Jacare Souza and his cornermen has tested positive for the virus. The UFC moved the infected individuals to let them isolate off-premises. However, the patients are being cared for by a team of medical professionals.
The UFC has been very strict about the use of PPEs which is very evident from the weigh-ins where Souza can be seen wearing a mask and gloves. Souza did not show any symptoms and will hopefully return to the octagon way sooner than we expect
