Khabib Nurmagomedov, following his press conference, sits down with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. He opens up about defending his title after facing Tony Ferguson.

When asked about a possible match-up against Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje, Khabib brushes it off. The fighter feels Gaethje is not at a high-level yet, even though the latter (21-2-0) is one of the best in the lightweight division.

He said, “I think he’s not top, high level Lightweight right now. He only top, like one of the best Lightweight right now.

Coming off a streak of 3 wins, Gaethje seems to be on the path to pose a real threat to Khabib’s dominance. His last win came against Donald Cerrone in the headliner of the evening, where Gaethje knocked The Cowboy out in the first round itself.

The Eagle admits there are a lot of talented fighters in the Lightweight division. Namely Justin Gaehtje, Kevin Lee and Charles Oliviera. The pair (Lee and Oliviera) is set to take on each other at UFC Fight Night 170. They will be headlining the event.

“But I think they got to fight each other, they have to fight each other… What they have position, I been there.”

Khabib explains how he has been through countless fights to become the undisputed UFC Lightweight champion of the world.  He claims the likes of Gaethje need to get more fights under their belt if they are to pique his interest.

Khabib’s manager also claims that McGregor will not get a shot at the title unless he proves himself to be worthy of the opportunity. Ali Abdelaziz feels McGregor would earn a crack at the title if he beats Justin Gaethje.

Khabib is now preparing to take on Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson. The two fighters will be headlining UFC 249, set to take place on the 19th of April at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York.
