In a recent interview with BT Sport, Justin Gaethje opened up about his weight management issues and reacted to Tony Ferguson making weight ahead of schedule.

On May 9, Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje will compete against one of the most dangerous fighters in the division. He will fight Tony Ferguson for the UFC interim lightweight championship. While Gaethje looks like a natural lightweight, he did admit that making the championship weight will be difficult.

Gaethje made his debut on July 7, 2017. Since then, he has fought six times in the UFC. During his 3 year tenure with the company, he never had to cut down to 155 lbs. Because a non-title bout allows the fighters to be a pound over the actual weight limit.

However, to compete for a championship belt, he will have to hit the scales at 155 lbs. Anything over the limit will jeopardize his chances of winning the gold, and it could also result in a heavy penalty for Gaethje.

“I would never do that! I can see a mock weigh in. Maybe 12 weeks out or 8 weeks out,” Gaethje said. “But that was less than a month ago, less than 2 weeks ago. I am sure that’s gonna help him confidence-wise. But I don’t know, hopefully, he will go to sleep much easier.”

Do you think that cutting weight two weeks before the event will help Tony Ferguson in any way?
