Kamaru Usman vs Jorge Masvidal: Nate Diaz Stamps His Approval

UFC Welterweight Nate Diaz took to Twitter and expressed his views on the recent short notice booking for UFC 251. The former BMF title challenger signed off with his stamp of approval on Kamaru Usman facing Jorge Masvidal. ‘Gamebred’ steps in on 6-days notice to fill in for Gilbert Burns at Yas Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.

209’s favorite son is seemingly on board with the new booking much like fight fans around the world.

Nate Diaz most recently fought against the current title challenger in ATT’s Jorge Masvidal for the BMF strap. The fight was a massive spectacle that headlined Madison Square Garden at UFC 244. Both fighters are considered to be massive fan favorites on the roster and are considerable draws in the promotion.

It appears as though the Stockton native has co-signed on the Masvidal and Usman booking which is a rare feat. Diaz is not known for shying away from expressing his views no matter what the situation may be.

The announcement comes as a surprise to the MMA community especially considering the recent strife between Masvidal and the UFC. The two entities had been at odds with one another over pay disputes and contract negotiations.

‘Durinho’ Burns was moved off the card after testing positive for COVID-19 alongside his brother and cornerman. Usman and Burns both did not board the chartered airplane to Abu Dhabi. Speculations immediately surrounded a possible new opponent for ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’.

Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman have plenty of bad blood going into their scheduled title fight at Yas Island. Both fighters have had choice words for one another in the media throughout the past year. Moreover, the welterweights had a heated exchange at a SuperBowl media day earlier in the year.

The 170-pound scrap offers many interesting unknowns as the athletes in question have a varied skill set. Additionally, MMA fans will be on the edge of their seat as UFC 251 heats up in sunny Abu Dhabi.
