“The Legend of Jorge Masvidal is Very Real”- Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Lauds Jorge Masvidal Ahead of UFC 251

UFC’s Fight Island adventure is underway with fights taking place on Fight Island. The location seemed a myth a few months ago. However, fights are taking place at this very moment as fans are awaiting the prospect of three championship fights. None can be bigger on paper than the UFC 251 main event clash between Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman. 

Dwayne Johnson who is a fan of ‘Gamebred’ presented him with the BMF title belt at UFC 244. Now in an episode of ESPN+ via a SportsCenter tweet he broke down the fighters rise and how he resonated with the fans, thereby riding a huge wave of momentum over the past years.

Johnson touched upon the Welterweight fighter’s days as a street fighter as a teenager. He said, “The legend of Jorge Masvidal is very real down in Miami starting in the streets with street fighting, but then also continue to hone his skills. So yes, he’s been around for a very long time, he’s done a lot of these rodeos.”

Now, the former WWE Superstar spoke about the change in the fighter that saw him connect to the fans and become a massive name.

“But I think something really interesting happened and the fans felt this too as well. The company felt this too as well. I think everybody around Jorge felt this. When somebody makes a distinct decision, the world views me in one way, I want them to view and interpret it now in a different way.”

As per the Hollywood megastar, Masvidal’s changes in mentality reflected in his physicality and mentality changing too. ‘The Rock’ believes that the timing was crucial as it always is in the UFC and sports in general.

“There’s a few things that happened. So mentally, he changed, when his mentality changed his energetic shift changed and physically it all changed and it all just came together, And the timing of it too, cause timing is everything especially you know when it comes to things like this especially in sports.” 

He continued “Timing came together great. I think the world was ready for this new iteration of Jorge Masvidal and this awakening if you will. The bottom line is.. The guy went out and proved it.”

The BMF Champion is riding 3 fight win streak. He heads into his 49th professional fight as he aims to become a divisional belt for the first time in his career. In ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ he will face a dominant champion who hasn’t lost for 7 years in 15 fights, but we can be sure of one thing, he will channel in his experience and days of struggle and will give it his all.
