Jorge Masvidal has had an incredible last few days. From training as usual at the American Top Team gym in Florida, ‘Gamebred’ has agreed to fill in for Gilbert Burns at the UFC 251, and having cleared the coronavirus tests, he is on his way to Abu Dhabi. However, his coach Mike Brown was not so lucky. The ATT coach tested positive for the virus and did not get the all-clear to board the flight. As a result, he will have to watch his trainee on television.

As per Ariel Helwani’s ESPN article, Brown opened up on being unable to be at the octagon side for the fight against Kamaru Usman. He said, “Just heartbroken I’m not going to see Jorge win the world championship in person.”

Jorge Masvidal is one of the most thoughtful athletes

He continued by implying that no fighter is more deserving than the company’s only BMF Champion. Brown said, “Nobody deserves it more than this guy. Nobody has paid more dues. Jorge is also one of the most thoughtful athletes I’ve ever met. He makes everyone feel they are with him and a huge part of this journey.”

Brown went on to highlight Masvidal’s years of experience as a fighter. ‘Gamebred’ has competed in fight organizations all across the country for over 17 years. The coach commented on how the 3rd ranked Welterweight’s efforts have readied him for this moment.

“The truth is this guy has been honing his skills for more than 20 years and developed one of the highest fight IQs the sport has ever seen.”

Now, Brown touches upon his positive test and reveals that he is recovering well. However, he reiterated the fact that the only pain he feels is in his heart. “As far as being COVID positive, I feel good. The only pain I feel is in my heart,” concluded Brown.

‘Gamebred’ will head to Yas Fight Island a man short. However, he will be determined to ensure that he emerges victorious and silences the naysayers who have accused him of rushing into a fight of this magnitude.
